Heal Africa
Lyn Lusi works in a hospital in the Congo which aims to heal and support women who have suffered rape during the war in the Congo. In eastern Congo, vying militias, armies and bandits use rape as a weapon of terror. As a consequence of this, many women are damaged (both physically and mentally), and isolated from their tribe and families.
Lumo is a feature-length documentary about a young Congolese woman on an uncertain path to recovery at a unique hospital for rape survivors. In spite of her injuries, and the many surgeries she received, she has become a symbol of survival for the many other women who have experienced this type of torture.
